About Hagaren

I have chosen to focus on a single line in my breeding program, which began with my first Cardigans (Golem and Blue, who are Carbon x Phoebe), followed by Golem’s children (Ella and Dexter, who are Golem x Bronte), and now Ella’s children (Valentine and Ollie, who are Rush x Ella).  It has been a joy to work so closely with this line, to see physical and personality traits passed down in a family of dogs whom I love.

I am located in Maine and exhibit (a.k.a. attend dog shows) in the New England area several times a year.

Having puppies is the light of my life, but I only breed when I have ideal homes lined up for a potential litter.  I am not a “sell and run” breeder. I like having contact with my puppy owners, hearing about the lives of my puppies, and am always available to hear both their successes and their sorrows.  I work very hard on mate selection, breeding for health, breed-type, temperament, and personality.  I raise babies with rigorous, very personal socialization, and am proud of the results from my first two litters.  If you are located in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, or anywhere within driving distance, I would be delighted to meet and chat about my little “family”.

My kennel name (I pronounce it hawg-aw-ren”) comes from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, which is called Hagane no Renkinjutsushi in its native Japan.  The title would be abbreviated to “FMA” in the English, and “Hagaren” in Japanese.  The anime Cowboy Bebop is somewhat responsible for my venture into Cardigans, and I wanted something anime-related for my kennel name.  There is a kind of alchemy to breeding dogs –  taking the raw material of a pedigree and forming living creatures from it – so it seemed fitting.
